Electric Muscle Stimulation

  1. How does it work?

    An electric pulse contratcs and relaxes the muscles excersicing them.  

  2. Does it hurt and what does it feel like?

    There is no pain or discomfort involved. In fact, many clients find the treatments to be very relaxing.  You will feel a tingling sensation to begin with and gradually as the intensity increases you will feel the targeted muscles contracting.  It is not unusual to find that it feels like a massage. 

  3. Is it safe?

    EMS is very safe and there are no negative side effects.. There are few contra-indications and although in some cases a physicians consent may be required, EMS is otherwise safe and effective for most people of all ages and sizes.  

  4. How many times a week can I come?

    Ideally you want to do three treatments a week for a total of 10 treatments. For minimum results two treatments a week are recommended.  In some circumstances if you already have a vigorous fitness plan then coming once a week will be suffucient to enhance your current regimen. 

  5. How many treatments do I need?

    For minimum lasting results it is recommended you do at least ten sessions 2-3 times a week. 

  6. How long do the results last?

    With EMS you are using 100% of the targeted muscle fibers as opposed to half that when you're doing regular exercise. Consequently, results from EMS will last longer then from results you'd get  from doing regular active exercise. As long as your weight has remained consistant, your results will last 6 to 8 months after doing 10 treatments. If you maintain some for of fitness routine, your results can maintain indefinitely. 

  7. What areas and how many can I work on?

    You can work on most areas of the body including but not limited to the abdomen, glutes, thighs and arms. 

    You may work on 2 to 3 areas at once.

    It is suggested that the areas you pick to target remain the same for all 10 treatments to acheive optimum results. 

  8. What results will I see?

    Results vary per individual and can far exceed the typical expected results. Common results after the completion of 10 treatments (as long as weight has remained constant) vary from 1/2 inch to 2 inches or more off the rib cage, waist and abdomen each and generally 1 pant size down and 2 pant sizes down after 20 treatments. 

    Other benefits of EMS you will notice is muscle tone and strength, improved circulation, better lymphatic drainage and pain relief.

  9. Will I feel soreness after?

    No. With conventional exercise methods your muscle release lactid acid to the blood stream causing you to feel stiff and sore. EMS treatments do not require glucose which is usually utilized during exercise. This is a benefit as the body burns surrounding fat cells without decreasing glucose levels and prevents the build up of lactid acid.  What you may notice is  firmness.

  10. I recently gave birth, will this help?

    Absolutely! EMS is very effective in helping the body bounce back quicker post child birth. Please allow 6 weeks after birth or 6 months after a caesarean to start treatments. 

  11. Will I lose weight?

    Muscle consumes more calories per day then fat. The more muscle you build the more your calorie consumption goes up and your weight loss will be porportionate, keeping mindful that your diet remain balanced and appropriate. Weightloss will be greater if you include cardio into your routine as the EMS will work to tone the muscles and will make the weightloss process more efficient. 

  12. Can this completely supplement going to the gym?

    Since EMS stimulates the muscles and not your respitory or cardiovascular systems, it does not completely replace regular exercise. It enhances your fitness regimen greatly but it is advised that you still perform regular exercise and especially cardio.  The more you build your core and over all muscle strength the easier you will find it i to do your gym and other exercises.
